Even though it’s
January in Idaho
-24 degrees,
I don’t need gloves
as long as you are holding
my hand in yours.
The world is wrapped in snow
white below and grey above
and so cold,
I don’t need gloves
as long as you are holding
my hand in yours.
So we stand in silence
laughter swept away by the wind
pink cheeked by cold,
I don’t need gloves
as long as you are holding
my hand in yours.
Hold my hand
and hold me close
my love
because despite this chill
and the wind
and the snow
I don’t need gloves
as long as you are holding
my hand in yours.
Love means never having to share gloves, just hands and hearts! Nice poem of love!

The almost choral repetition of 'I don’t need gloves / as long as you are holding / my hand in yours' gives the poem its child's voice and its underpinning sense of both the fragility and the tensile strength of security in childhood.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet refrain...that's quite a love that can keep you warm through an Idaho winter! :o)
ReplyDeletewhen love is at hand, no gloves required !!!! nice
ReplyDeletelovely & true - no glove can compete for warmth with a bare human hand, held
ReplyDeleteAwww.

Your poem is awesome ... I lived in Minneapolis for 24 years and DID wear gloves, no matter who was holding my hand.
ReplyDeleteLove the repetition and sweet message in your poem!
ReplyDeleteall the world is never so warm as when your hand is in mine!
